Rean Steenkamp

Publisher and managing editor Rean Steenkamp is the owner and co-founder of Africa's Bowhunter. Rean has many year's experience in journalism. As a young man he worked at the Transvaler as a reporter and sub-editor, and later worked for various magazines – including the Game and Hunt, where he was editor. He is primarily a traditional-bow enthusiast, but also often hunts with a  compound bow. He has been bowhunting for the last 13 years and has taken many game with the longbow, recurve and compound bow. 

Advertising director and co-editor

Tom Cairncross

Tom Cairncross, advertising director and co-editor, spent 27 years as a journalist, writing in a variety of fields at three daily newspapers. He also teached for eight years at various secondary schools. Since he joined the Bowhunter editorial team he has developed a keen interest in archery and bowhunting. Tom, with the valuable help of Yolande, also sees to it that advertisers don’t forget to submit their worthy advertisements.

The editor, Frank Sutherland, has 40-odd years’ media experience, which includes radio journalism, audiovisual production, general public relations, and magazine writing/editing

Graphic Designer

Andre van Schaik

Andre van Schaik is Africa's Bowhunter's page artist. He has 20 years’ experience in graphic design and creates many of the ads and most of the pages of the magazine, seeing to it that the magazine makes a good visual impression and that the cover catches the eye on the shelf. He is also quite expert with computer systems and regularly takes care of IT problems that arise at the office. André is an enthusiastic bowhunter.

Yolande SteenkampAdmin

Yolande Steenkamp, Rean’s wife, has 16 years’ experience of radio journalism and editing. She primarily heads the admin function, but is something of an all-rounder in the office as she also does some editorial and advertising work. Like Rean, she is an avid archer and plans on hunting her first animal this year with her recurve bow.

SantieAdmin

Santie Liebenberg is in charge of subscriptions, seeing to it that subscribers locally and abroad receive their copies on time. Before joining Bowhunter, Santie spent eight years in bookselling and eight years in radio programme production. In addition to managing subscriptions, she helps to promote the magazine in various other ways.

Cleve CheneyHunting and environmental editor

Cleve Cheney acts on a part-time basis as hunting and environmental editor, making sure that the hunts and other activities we write about meet accepted standards. He is also our best-known writer, having contributed articles for every issue since the magazine’s inception. Cleve has been in conservation for 27 years, of which 20 years were spent with the National Parks Board – most of it in the Kruger Park. Cleve has been an avid bow hunter for 22 years and is an avid recurve and longbow builder. He began offering bow hunting education courses more than 10 years ago and currently offers one of only two SCI accredited bow hunting courses in South Africa. This bow hunting course has a reputation for setting the highest of standards. Cleve is currently also a lecturer at the South African Wildlife College. He has a diploma in Nature Conservations and a MA degree in animal Physiology.
